The Oriental College of Pharmacy celebrated National Librarian’s Day with great enthusiasm and respect on 12th August 2024 in the college library. This day holds special significance as it marks the birth anniversary of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan, the father of library science in India.
The festivities began at 12:00 p.m. with the traditional lighting of the lamp by Dr. Sudha Rathod, Mrs. Alveera Patil, Mrs. Aparjita Patil, and Mrs. Deepali Patil.
The highlight of the celebration was a speech delivered by Mrs. Deepali Patil, the college librarian. In her insightful and inspiring address, Mrs. Patil emphasized the importance of National Librarian Day and elaborated on Dr. S.R. Ranganathan’s contributions to library science, particularly his Five Laws of Library Science, which have laid the foundation for modern library practices.
In honor of National Librarian’s Day, a book exhibition was organized. The exhibition took place in the library premises from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. A local bookseller, Lead India, showcased a variety of fiction and pharmacy books. Some students purchased books, and the library also acquired new titles based on faculty recommendations.
The exhibition attracted around 250 visitors, including faculty members, non-teaching staff, and students. It was encouraging to see numerous book purchase recommendations from the attendees, indicating a keen interest in expanding the library's collection. The event was a resounding success.
The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mrs. Deepali Patil, who expressed her gratitude to all the dignitaries, faculty members, non-teaching staff, and students for their presence and active participation, which made the event a grand success.
